Academic Coach

Position Description:

Full time/part time academic support

Academic Coaches assist within the classroom as well as facilitate small group and individual instruction. Academic Coaches are essential to maintaining our low student-teacher ratio and ensuring all students get the individualized attention requisite for success. Academic Coaches are asked to commit for one school year and are paid hourly ranging from $12-$15/hour depending on experience. For positions as an Academic Coach, please email your resume and cover letter specifying your subject and location preferences to
acjobs@hightechhigh.org.

Once we receive your application, if we are interested in following up for an initial twenty minute screening interview, we will contact you.
If you have difficulty filling out the application, please email webmaster@hightechhigh.org

We try to provide information to candidates in a timely manner.  However, if you are a teacher of humanities, art, or biology, please understand that we will get many, many applications for every position we have available. We may not get in touch with you unless you appear to be a very strong candidate with a strong cover letter.

Earn a teaching credential
High Tech High is the first charter school that has been authorized by the state of California to fully credential its own teachers. Only people who have been hired as teachers at High Tech High can earn a credential. To enter the teacher credentialing program, it is necessary to first obtain a teaching position at High Tech High.
For more information on the HTH teacher credentialing program, go to:
http://www.hightechhigh.org/about/educator_training.php.
Fill out an application if you would like to earn a teaching credential while working as a teacher intern or full time teacher.

In brief, while working full or half time, you will attend classes on Tuesday evenings over two years.  You can view the site for current credentialing students here.
Due to the large number of applications for employment positions that we receive, we request that candidates hold off on asking questions about the credential program until they are further along in the employment process.

Career switcher?
Are you working in a math, physics, chemistry, or engineering related field? Do you have an interest in teaching math, physics, or chemistry?

We are always on the lookout for teachers of those disciplines. If you are currently living in San Diego, there are opportunities at High Tech High to get on a teaching career path. For the current school year, you could volunteer in a classroom occasionally, or get hired on an hourly basis to tutor students and/or to work in classrooms alongside an experienced math or science teacher. This type of volunteer/paid experience will gave you exposure to what it is actually like to be a teacher while offering you a flexible schedule while you are still working at your current job. Further, if in the future you are hired as a teacher at an HTH school, you are automatically enrolled in our free, two year credentialing program while you are teaching at one of our schools.

Fill out an application if you would like to consider getting involved in the HTH Career Switcher Teaching Path.

Teacher Interns
High Tech High anticipates hiring both full time and part time teacher Interns for the next school year. Teaching Internships are available in K-12th grade humanities, math, science, Spanish, and the arts. Full time Interns teach full time and are the teacher of record, while part time Interns teach  2 sections per day (a 50% teaching load).  Both types of Interns have an advisory, teach an x block club, attend all faculty meetings, and are at school all day.  Full time Interns receive full, first year, pay.  Part time Interns are paid a $20,000 salary.  Interns are concurrently enrolled in the HTH teacher credentialing program, a free, two year program. Presuming the teacher Intern is offered a contract at an HTH school for the second year and completes all requirements for the teaching credential, they can earn a California Preliminary teaching credential. In California, this credential is exactly the same as a credential earned through a university.

Fill out an application if you would like to be considered as an HTH teaching intern.
