Description:
The Drug Unit is a thematic interdisciplinary unit designed for 10th graders at High Tech High. Students examine prescriptive drugs, over the counter drugs, and illicit drugs from historical, societal, biological, and mathematical perspectives. They learn content from the disciplines of chemistry, biology, math, literature, history, and technology. The unit ends with a digital video project. Products include a storyboard for an educational drug movie, a five-minute educational drug video, a persuasive essay on an illicit drug, a lab notebook containing lab write-ups on drug synthesis, and a statistical analysis of drug use and awareness on the school campus.

About the Authors
Jesse Wade grew up in San Diego, California. She attended the University of California, Santa Cruz where she received her B.A. in Molecular Cellular Developmental Biology. After she graduated, Jesse returned to San Diego and attended San Diego State University, where she obtained her teaching credential. Jesse is currently an 11th grade biology teacher at High Tech High.
