I was born in Uruapan, Michoacán, México and was raised in Shelley, Idaho around fields of russet potatoes and cows! (Now you understand why I live in San Diego and will never go back to Idaho.)
After my high school graduation, (like 10 seconds later) I moved to Salt Lake City, Utah and completed my B.A. in Psychology, thus becoming the first person from both sides of my family to have completed a High School and Bachelor’s Degree. After that, I moved to Barcelona, Spain to attend the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona and received a B.A in Spanish. I took advantage of my time in Europe by traveling throughout Italy, France, and other areas of Spain. I loved it!
I returned to “America” and continued my work at the University of Utah’s Department of Psychology as the Program Coordinator for a longitudinal research study looking at the development of attention, emotions, acculturation and attachment in Latin-American mothers and their children.
In 2005, I took another educational step and enrolled at the University of San Diego’s School of Leadership and Education Sciences and started working towards my Master’s Degree in Counseling, with a specialization in School Counseling. During my time at USD, I had the opportunity of studying abroad in Bangkok, Thailand and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Any chance I get to travel… I take it!
In May of 2007, I graduated from the University of San Diego and am now very happy to form part of such an amazing team at High Tech High International as the English Language Learner Coordinator and overall student support. I enjoy working with our students and take every opportunity I can to learn from them.
--One thing that I never forget and which has pretty much led my life is the belief that all dreams are possible, and just like Mickey Mouse once said, “… only if you have the COURAGE to pursue them.”
What’s your dream?

Elika Dadsetan was born in Tehran, Iran during the “Revolution.” When she was five months old, she visited family in Paris with her parents. During their stay there, the Iranian borders closed, and they were not allowed back into the country. Twenty seven years later, Elika has yet to return.
In the meantime, her family moved every few years until they landed in Southern California. Elika went to high school in the San Fernando Valley and college at UC San Diego where she majored in Political Science and Sociology with minors in Philosophy and Law & Society. In between college and grad school, Elika backpacked through Europe by herself.
After college, she moved back to Los Angeles to go to law school, finishing in the Bay area at USF. While she was still in school, she lived abroad in Madrid for a few months and studied International Law, with an emphasis on European Economics. Much to her family's surprise, and initially sadness, she decided to change careers and started teaching Pre-K and substituting through the San Diego Unified School District. Last year, Elika returned to her high school to teach 12th grade classes in Government and Law & Society, while helping coach the swim team alongside her old coach. Elika feels as though she has found her “calling” and loves every minute of the work she does with her students!
Fluent in Farsi, conversational in Spanish, and currently working on French, Elika enjoys international travel and leaves the country at least once or twice a year (although she won't complain about a domestic vacation). Currently, Elika keeps busy by taking classes toward her teaching credential through High Tech High, taking a French class at UCSD, learning the guitar, and freelance writing for several magazines. When she isn't busy, you can find her watching sports, writing, swimming, doing yoga, playing the piano or reading…

This is my 2nd year at High Tech High International though this will be my 14th year as a teacher. I teach 9th math/physics. Ian and I are teaching partners for Team Alians II. OK, a little history, you ask? Well, I have a undergraduate degree from Siena College in Computer Science. I worked as a systems analyst for the WWF in Stamford, CT for about 5.5 years. Something, though, was not right - to put it bluntly, I was making money for the man and did not feel satisfied. I began the process of volunteering for the Peace Corps on January 2, 1992, a day after my birthday, and, by July 9th, I was aboard a plane whose final destination was Malawi, a small country in southeast Africa. Needless to say, the experiences changed my life - I realized I wanted to continue as an educator. Fortunately, I was awarded a fellowship to Teachers College Columbia University in New York City. While getting my Masters in Math Education in the evenings, I was teaching at the Brooklyn International High School, a public school catering to the multitude of immigrants prevalent in the Big Apple. This was a fantastic experience, exposing me to project-based learning. But, my restless heart yearned for a place 'where the weather suits my clothes.' So, in August 2000, I moved out to San Diego in a Uhaul van to see what the west coast was all about. After finding a place to live and getting a car (hadn't owned one in 8 years), I was grateful to work at Point Loma High School.
The years passed and restlessness once again pulled me in a new direction which has led me to High Tech High. Yes, there are many, many details left out but you get the idea - I love teaching and, yes, am a math geek."
