VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT HTHI
 ON-GOING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT HTHI:

Room Parents: Help coordinate logistics for any needs of the teaching team, such as confirming times for student-led conferences with individual families or arranging drivers for a field trip. Please contact Jerri-Ann Jacobs, Volunteer Rep. for the Parents’ Association, at jerriann@pacbell.net if you are interested in volunteering.

Presentation of Learning (POL) Panelists: Sit on POL panels along with teachers and other students at the end of each semester. Panelists give both positive and constructive feedback to students and are needed for either an AM (8:15 – 11:30) or PM (12:15 – 3:15) session POL/TPOL dates – more specific times and dates to come later. Please contact Ian Eggleston, HTHI Director, at ieggleston@hightechhigh.org if you are interested in volunteering.

Internship Mentors: Host an 11th grade student intern at their work site. All HTHI juniors spend full days on an internship, between January 11th- 29th. Mentors provide guidance and support while students engage in meaningful project work that benefits the site and helps students make connections between school and the work world. Please contact Joanne Sith, 11th grade teacher, at jsith@hightechhigh.org if you are interested in volunteering.

X-block Coaches: Lead a fitness-based activity with a group of students during x-block on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 – 3:15 PM. This is a 9 week commitment as x-blocks change each quarter. Please contact Melissa Agudelo, Dean of Students, at magudelo@hightechhigh.org if you are interested in volunteering.

X-block Drivers: Drive students to their off-site x-block on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:30 PM. Examples of x-blocks that occur off-site are rock climbing and swimming. Please contact Melissa Agudelo, Dean of Students, at magudelo@hightechhigh.org if you are interested in volunteering.

Exchange Student Host Families: Share their loving home and family by hosting an exchange student for either a short term stay (2-3 weeks) or the entire year. Hosting an exchange student is an enriching cultural experience that also supports the school in developing relationships within the international community. Please contact Melissa Agudelo, Dean of Students, at magudelo@hightechhigh.org if you are interested in volunteering.

Exchange Student Liasons: Take turns coordinating excursions once a month with our foreign exchange students to local attractions or festivals that would be of interest to anyone new to our community and culture. Please contact Melissa Agudelo, Dean of Students, at magudelo@hightechhigh.org if you are interested in volunteering.

Translators: Help translate important school documents to make them more accessible to all members of our community. Please contact Melissa Agudelo, Dean of Students, at magudelo@hightechhigh.org if you are interested in volunteering.

Front Office Assistants: Help with any administrative needs at the front office on an as needed basis. Additional support is appreciated when important mailings, such as progress reports and report cards, must be sent out to the entire school. Please e-mail Natasha Nace, Site Manager, at nnace@hightechhigh.org if you are interested in volunteering.

Community Service Coordinators: Take turns coordinating a community service activity once a month for our students and help inform both parents and students of other volunteer opportunities in the community. Please contact Ian Eggleston, HTHI Director, at ieggleston@hightechhigh.org if you are interested in volunteering.

AS-NEEDED VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES*:

Classroom Guest Speakers: Share their area of expertise with students in connection to a related area of study happening in the classroom.

Field Trip Drivers: Help drive students on their child’s teaching team to local field trips in the community on an as needed basis if they are available to help.

Grant Writers: Help teachers write grants that will help support buying additional resource materials and equipment for the classroom on an as needed basis. Grant writing experience preferred.

*We will send out detailed information about specific requests for volunteers as these opportunities arise throughout the year.
