High Tech High North County (HTHNC)

When a visitor enters the building at HTHNC, they see students designing beautiful work in a safe community that honors their individuality.

HTHNC is a public charter school which draws upon the diversity of the San Diego North County region through a random lottery acceptance system. The goal of High Tech High North County is to offer a college preparatory, project-based learning environment to 9-12 grade students.  We also aim to inspire students to become civic leaders through real-world, authentic learning experiences.

At HTHNC the teachers are designers of the project-based curriculum.  They focus on personalization to students' needs and preparing all students for college and the world beyond.    Students are placed on academic teams each year.  In 9th and 10th grade, each student is on a team with one Humanities teacher and one Math/Science teacher.  In 11th grade, the team grows to 3 teachers with students taking Humanities, Math and Biology.  During this year students participate in Internships which give them real-life working experience in local organizations.  By 12th grade, students have a team of 4 teachers and enroll in Literature, Government, Math and Environmental Engineering.  Senior year culminates with a Senior Project which includes a disseration, oral defense of research and a student-designed artifact to showcase their work.  Additionally, as Juniors and Seniors, some students take classes at the local community colleges.  Throughout all grade levels, the students' schedule is balanced with both Visual and Performing Arts classes. We also develop student-athletes with our membership in California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).
