Sarah Barnes teaches 10th grade humanities at High Tech High Media Arts. Previously she served as a resource specialist at High Tech Middle Media Arts. She holds a B.A. from the University of San Diego and an M.A. in Teaching and Learning from Point Loma Nazarene University with a concentration in Special Education.
Ben Daley is the Chief Operating Officer for HTH schools and a faculty member in the HTH GSE. He works closely with school directors and teachers to provide leadership for hiring, curriculum, and professional development. Previously, Ben taught physics and robotics and served as the School Director at High Tech High. Ben graduated from Haverford College with a B.S. in physics and teaching credentials in both physics and math. He earned an M.A. in Science Education from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Samantha Gladwell teaches 4th grade at San Diego Cooperative Charter School. She is pursuing her M.Ed. in Teacher Leadership at the HTH GSE, where she is investigating how to differentiate mathematics instruction through the use of learning stations. Samantha received her multiple-subject teaching credential and B.A. in Diversified Liberal Arts from the University of San Diego.
Linda Libby teaches drama studies at High Tech Middle Media Arts. She trained at the Pacific Conservatory for the Performing Arts and earned her M.F.A. from Temple University. Still active professionally, Linda is a regular in San Diego theater as an actress, writer, director, and producer. Linda earned her teaching credential as a “person of eminence”—one of 27 such credentials issued in California since 1979.
Manuel Paul Lopez teaches 10th grade humanities at High Tech High. He holds degrees from University of California, San Diego and San Francisco State University. His work has been published in Bilingual Review/La Revista Bilingue, ZYZZYVA, Hanging Loose, Rattle, Puerto del Sol, among others. His first book, Death of a Mexican and other Poems, was published by Bear Star Press in 2006 and was awarded the Dorothy Brunsman Poetry Prize. His new collection entitled 1984 is forthcoming.
Edrick P. Macalagium teaches 6th grade at the Myrtle S. Finney Elementary School in Chula Vista. He holds a B.A. in Liberal Studies and a Multiple Subject CLAD credential from San Diego State University, where he also worked as a college recruiter prior to teaching. Edrick is pursuing his M.Ed. in Teacher Leadership at the HTH GSE, where he is exploring ways to help students articulate their learning through journaling and peer sharing.
Gunter Pauli, professor of Systems Design at Politecnico di Torino in Italy, created the Ecover Company that produces biodegradable soaps. He is also the founder of Zero Emissions Research & Initiatives (ZERI), a global network of creative minds seeking solutions to world challenges. The common vision shared by the members of the ZERI family is to view waste as resource and seek solutions using nature’s design principles as inspiration.
Jennifer R. Pieratt teaches 10th grade humanities at High Tech High North County. She holds a B.A. from San Diego State University and an M.Ed. from National University. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Claremont Graduate University.
Zoe Randall teaches multimedia at High Tech Middle Media Arts. She holds a B.A. from UC San Diego and she produces freelance videos for the Travel Channel. She began her teaching career at the Birch Aquarium at Scripps La Jolla as well as teaching English in Bordeaux, France. Zoe is pursuing her M.Ed. in Teacher Leadership at the HTH GSE.
Randy Scherer teaches 11th grade humanities at High Tech High Media Arts. Before entering teaching, he was the production manager of three national magazines and editor of two social science anthologies. Randy earned a B.A. from Binghamton University and an M.Ed. in Teacher Leadership from the HTH GSE, where his action research thesis focused on high school students’ experience of internships.
Samuel Steinberg Seidel is the author of the forthcoming book, Hip Hop Genius. In 1983 Sam began attending alternative public schools. In 1986 he recorded his first rap tape. He is still building from these experiences as he writes, speaks and consults in the areas of education, arts, and community development. Sam is currently a Rhode Island School of Design Community Fellow and teaches at the Rhode Island Training School, a juvenile prison. He holds a B.A. and teaching credential from Brown University.
Cady Staff teaches 8th grade humanities at High Tech Middle Media Arts. She earned a B.A., teaching credential, and M.Ed. from UC San Diego. Cady is pursuing her M.Ed. in Teacher Leadership at the HTH GSE, where her action research is focused on social entrepreneurship in the middle school humanities curricula.
Mike Strong teaches 7th grade humanities at High Tech Middle Media Arts. He holds a B.A. from Point Loma Nazarene University and prior to teaching, worked as a landscape architect and college writing instructor. Mike is pursuing his M.Ed. in Teacher Leadership at the HTH GSE, where his action research is focused on personal narrative in project-based learning.
