Dear High Tech High Community,
As we continue to grapple with the news of the heart-wrenching terrorist attacks, abductions, and the tragic loss of innocent lives in Israel and Gaza, we are reminded of the profound fragility and interconnectedness of our shared human experience. We, the members of the Board of Trustees, condemn acts targeting civilians, the young, the old, and the innocent, in the strongest terms and offer our heartfelt condolences to all who are touched by this heartbreak.
It is easy to feel distant from global events. However, our guiding principles here at High Tech High are centered around valuing each other and recognizing the inherent humanity in all individuals. These principles are not mere words on paper, but a testament to our belief in the sanctity of every life and our shared responsibility to one another.
To all our students, staff, and families who are navigating through the pain and uncertainty these events bring, please remember that you are not alone. At High Tech High, we stand with you. We implore every member of our community to be the person who takes the time to notice, to reach out, and to lend a compassionate ear. We will make sure our school psychologists, across all campuses, are readily available to provide support.
It is also our shared responsibility to maintain the safety and well-being of our learning environment. If anyone witnesses potential hate speech or other violent actions, please immediately bring it to the attention of a trusted adult on campus. We aim to nurture an environment of understanding and respect, free from prejudice and hate.
Also, we’d like to share with you the resource from the San Diego County Office of Education that guides engaging in meaningful discussions about the current situation. This can be an invaluable tool for families, students, and even staff, seeking a broader understanding and perspective.
Let us unite as a beacon of hope, and understanding. Let us continue to foster a community that values empathy, understanding, and respect above all else.
With deepest sympathy and solidarity,
Gary E. Jacobs, Albert Lin, Lida Rafia
Board of Trustees, High Tech High
