All-Freshman Team Competes in California State Championships
(Updated) The High Tech High Storm Girls Cross-Country team made history on November 30th in Fresno, California, as they competed in the state championships. This marks what is believed to be the first time in California history that an all-freshman girls team qualified for the state championships.
Coaches Erik Figge and Mike Strong credit the team’s success to both talent and an exceptional team culture. “These girls are talented, but more importantly, they are committed to a team culture where learning and growing together matters most,” said Coach Strong.
The team’s journey has been remarkable. Early in the season, they dominated freshman divisions at prestigious meets, including the El Capitan Vaquero Stampede, Canyon Crest Academy’s Raven Invitational, and Mt. Carmel’s Asics Invitational. Their defining win came in the varsity division at the prestigious Mt. SAC Invitational, solidifying their confidence and paving the way to an Eastern League Championship and this postseason milestone.
The team’s philosophy—”It’s not about running. It never has been.”—has fostered a supportive environment that prioritizes growth, learning, and community.Â
The 2024 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Cross Country Championships took place on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Woodward Park in Fresno, California.Â
Join us in celebrating this historic achievement and cheering on these talented young athletes as they compete on the state’s biggest stage!
Note re boys’ cross-country: Sophomore Ruben Hernandez qualified to compete at the State Championships. Ruben improved his time by 2 minutes over last year. Ruben finished in the top 60 out of more than 200 runners in Division 4 boys competition.
