Hi! My name is Taya, but my students call me “Ms. Chase”. I grew up among the redwood trees in Humboldt County, northern California. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Art from San Diego State University in 2011. After working in the San Diego Superior Courts for several years, I decided to pursue a Teaching Credential in Mathematics from San Diego State University.
I joined the High Tech High community as a 9th grade math teacher in 2018. I earned my 1st Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the HTH Graduate School of Education in 2023 and my 2nd Master’s Degree in the Art of Teaching Mathematics from SDSU in 2024. This year I am pursuing my preliminary administrative services credential with the San Diego County Office of Education.
I am passionate about Math, Art, Social Justice and the great outdoors. One of my favorite things about working at HTH is taking students backpacking! When I’m not teaching or studying you can find me hiking or camping in the most remote locations of San Diego, or off on a road trip across the country.
