Hi! My name is Taya, but my students call me “Ms. Chase”. I grew up among the redwood trees in Humboldt County, northern California. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Art from San Diego State University in 2011. After working in the San Diego Superior Courts for several years, I decided to pursue a Teaching Credential in Mathematics from SDSU.
I joined the High Tech High community as a 9th grade math teacher in 2018. I received my M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from the HTH Graduate School of Education in 2023. This year I am pursuing my 2nd master’s degree of Arts in Teaching Mathematics Education from SDSU.
I am passionate about Math, Art, Social Justice and the great outdoors. One of my favorite things about working at HTH is taking students backpacking! When I’m not teaching or studying you can find me hiking or camping in the most remote locations of San Diego, or off on a road trip across the country.
