After more than 10 years in the education ecosystem, Kaya Arionus made the career jump from Agroforestry to Education. She has worked as a classroom teacher, comprehensive sexual education specialist, food security and women’s advocate, and diversity and inclusion specialist for Peace Corps Zambia. Kaya’s educational background is in both Environmental Chemistry (BS) and Sustainable Food Systems (ENVS BA), with multiple focused associates including Early Childhood Development and Applied Mathematics. Her goal is to create a truly inclusive where all students belong, are valued and have the opportunity to see themselves as scientists. She is passionate about food security, supporting low-income communities, culturally responsive teaching, SEL, and curriculum that highlights the intersectionality of science, social and environmental justice. In her free time, you can find Kaya visiting her partner and son in Japan, shootin’ hoops, training BJJ & Muay Thai, hiking, rock climbing, or jammin’ out to some hip-hop or R&B.
