Hi everyone! My name is Erin McCoy (she/her) and I am so excited to serve as the 9th grade Education Specialist at High Tech High Mesa! I grew up in San Jose, CA and spent all of my time playing soccer or hanging at the beach with friends and family. I made the trek north to attend the University of Oregon where I majored in Human Physiology and played club soccer for 4 years. It was at U of O that the seed was planted: I wanted to teach! I graduated in 2020 and amidst all of the uncertainty, moved home and worked in tech sales for a year before making the move to San Diego and pursuing my teaching credentials. I earned my Single Subject Life Science and Education Specialist (Mild/Mod) teaching credentials from USC (online) while student teaching in Chula Vista.
I joined the High Tech High organization in 2022 as a long-term Biology substitute, and later worked at the Education Specialist for our Senior class. I enjoyed a year full of “firsts” and LOTS of learning that I am excited to put into practice in the 2023-24 school year! Outside of work I enjoy playing soccer and beach volleyball, finding new restaurants around town, and spending time with friends and family.
