Chet is originally from Iowa City, Iowa, went to school at St. Olaf College in Minnesota, and then moved to Taipei, Taiwan for eight years, before landing in San Diego – a very traditional track. Chet studied Asian Studies, studio art, and Chinese in college, before moving to Taiwan. In Taiwan, Chet worked in both education and the arts, working at a cram school, a tutoring company, an art gallery, a university, and then landing a position as a Media Teacher at Taiwan’s first project based learning high school called VIS. After two years working at VIS, Chet came back to the US to pursue his Masters of Education through the High Tech High San Diego Teacher Residency Program, and was hired at High Tech High to teach 9th grade Humanities. Chet enjoys drawing, DJing, coaching the golf and ultimate frisbee teams at HTH, and playing both sports on his own time, and mainly taking on way more than he can handle. But it’s always fun and it’s always worth it.
