HTHMesa Athletics welcomes you! We hope that you will participate in one or more of our sport offerings during the school year. HTHMesa sports participates in the Frontier Conference of CIF. Students must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher to participate.

Mission Statement

At High Tech High, we believe that athletics should be a program where students can practice collaboration, show their character, and develop transformative skills that they will use in life.

(Communication, leadership, interdependence, resilience, humility and focus). Our athletes are students first and do not subscribe to one single story. They are not confined by labels but by their integrity on and off the courts and fields.

High Tech High strives to provide an equitable experience for all athletes and works to ensure that we are building community and honoring each other and ourselves. Our athletics teams support this mission in three ways:

  1. by doing what we say we are going to do. Our coaches and athletes will show up ready to work hard and commit.
  2. by creating a community of spirit and inclusion. Our athletes will be kind and inclusive of others.
  3. by competing to the best of their ability with integrity. Our athletes will represent high tech high by being good humans and will always strive to be better. They will carry themselves with grace and self respect and will assume best intent.

We are so excited to announce our 21-22 Fall sports season is ready to start!!
Please make sure all students interested in HTHMesa Athletics are registered on athleticclearance.com and have an updated sports physical for the 21-22 school year.   Take a look at the info below for Cross Country starting August 15th and Girls Volleyball Starting Monday August 9th.
HTHMesa Cross Country
We have a new coach!  HTHMesa athletics is excited to welcome Zach Weatherford to our team of runners.  Noah Monroy will still be supporting the team as well. With this strong pair as our coaches, there is a ton of potential for our program!!
Please join the HTH Mesa Thunder Cross Country Team! The more athletes the better! We plan to begin meeting a few days per week as a group on the week of 15 August. No experience running cross country is necessary, we are looking for individuals that want to have fun and get fit running in the process!
Our program is focused on four main areas, Evaluation – Education – Training – Monitoring, with a fun and exciting environment for the students to run and compete with their peers. Our purpose for the Thunder Cross-Country Team will focus on the process of our main areas for development while working together as a team and support system to succeed. I view cross-country as a team sport that works hard together with a highly positive and encouraging approach to compete as a team!
Practices- the team trains and practices on and around campus.
Meets are held at NTC park in Point Loma.  We will need parent support to help us get to and from meets later in the season.
Stay tuned for more details on official tryouts the week of the 15th.

HTHM Girls Volleyball
Another new coach that we are excited about is Lenae Ploscynski!!  Lenae Ploscynski will be leading the program and will be running the HTHMesa Varsity team.  We have a few assistants that will step in and support our teams, both JV and Varsity.  However, we are still looking for a JV head coach.  Please let Coach O’Kelley know if you have any connections or someone in mind that would like to support our program.
TRYOUTS for the JV and Varsity teams will be held Monday-Tuesday-Weds-Thursday August 9-12, 3:45-5:45 in the HTHM gym. Please wear workout clothes, tennis shoes and bring knee pads and water.  You must receive a separate email clearing you for tryouts.  If you have not received this email as of the day of tryouts you will need to log on and update your sports physical signed by a Physician or complete all signatures.  None of our students will be able to participate in HTHMAthletics without a completed profile and an updated sports physical for the 21-22 school year.  We will host another practice on Saturday August 14th from 9-11am.
PRACTICES will continue 345-545 M-Th until school starts.  Once school starts dates are subject to change due to games and school events. You will receive a full schedule as soon as teams are confirmed.
GAMES There will be at least 8 games, starting Sept 21, with extra scrimmages possible and games, TBD.  HTHMesa Volleyball plays their home games in the HTHMesa Thunderdome and plays their away games in different areas of San Diego County.  We will support and help to get our student-athletes to and from away matches.
TEAM/PARENT GET TOGETHER On Thursday August 12 after practice, there will be a pizza party at the HTHMesa gym for the players and parents to connect, discuss carpooling, and get questions answered. Pizza will be provided; feel free to bring side dishes and drinks to share.
TEAM BONDING We have been invited to attend a women’s volleyball home game at USD this fall, on a date to be determined, for FREE! More info to come on this exciting opportunity to see indoor competition in action!
