Mark was born in the Blue Ridge mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. After earning a Bachelors of Science in Outdoor Experiential Education at Appalachian State University, he migrated west in search of sunsets and alpenglow. Mark is passionate about getting students outside to foster a better understanding, appreciation, and connection to the natural world. For 10 years, he worked on the edge of Yosemite National Park at Camp Green Meadows, Merced County’s outdoor science school for 6th grade students. While the pandemic forced a temporary hiatus on outdoor education, he pursued a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential through CalState TEACH while employed as a middle school teacher. His hobbies include rock climbing, mountain biking, disc golf, hiking, camping, playing guitar, and long walks on the beach. After 12 years in the Sierra Nevada mountains, Mark is excited to be in San Diego with his wife Anna, and their two cats, Piper and Major Tom.
