Nathan grew up in Southern California and attended Grossmont High School on the El Cajon/La Mesa border. In 2007, he headed to a small liberal arts college in upstate New York to study social science and play lacrosse. After enduring years of lake-effect snow and freezing temperatures, he returned to California in 2011.
Back in Southern California, Nathan pursued further education at California State University, Long Beach, earning an M.A. in American history and a teaching credential. To help pay the bills, he roasted coffee for a local shop. Upon graduation, he began teaching California history at his alma mater.
After a stint in higher education, Nathan joined Nathaniel Narbonne High School in Harbor City, Los Angeles, where he taught ethnic studies and coached Academic Decathlon. In 2022, he became part of the HTM crew.
Outside of work, Nathan loves camping, hiking, fly fishing, surfing, reading, writing, cycling, watching movies, sipping coffee, and enjoying great food. He is passionate about education, politics, personal growth, and community building. He embraces learning, welcomes mistakes, and believes firmly in the power of second chances.
You can often find him relaxing with his two dogs, Amelia and Mo, tending to his native backyard garden, or laughing with his wife, Gabby.
