I was born in Mexico City, but since my family moved to Tijuana when I was 3 years old, I’ve always considered myself a proud Tijuanense.

I love the border life. The most traveled border in the world, where growing up meant having two languages, two currencies, friends with two citizenships and a year full of traditions that erase the geographical border itself.

My passion is Latin American Contemporary Art and Literature. I am fascinated by the syncretism of the pre-Hispanic and conquistador culture, and how that is reflected in the contemporary behavior of the Latino society and its artistic expressions.

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, which has allowed me the opportunity to explore different professional areas.

I taught high school Spanish and Literature in Mexico, I’ve worked in the film industry on both sides of the border, I’ve worked in contemporary art galleries on both sides of the border, I’ve explored writing and taught yoga.

When I was a teacher in Mexico, in 2007, the principal of the school organized a day trip to San Diego for some of the teachers (myself included) to a school with a revolutionary educational approach. That was the first time that I stepped into High Tech High.

I fell in love.

I remember thinking “if only I could be part of a team like this.”

I moved to the United States when I got married in 2012. I became a citizen in 2015.

Today my family consists of my husband, a little boy who pretends to be a ninja opossum, a little girl who has the brightest eyes I’ve ever seen, a gentle giant dog named Koda, a not so little sheepadoodle puppy named Zero and our bearded dragon Red.

I like cooking the way my abuelas and my mom taught me, painting with watercolors, reading Gabriel García Márquez, writing for my kids, reading to my kids, listening to Headspace meditation, dancing until I’m out of breath, reducing my waste and carbon footprint, traveling (who doesn’t?), surfing, hiking, cuddling with my dog, coffee at 5:30 a.m. with my husband, puzzles, Face Time with my parents and big loud long family reunions.

Oh! And teaching, I love teaching! That is why I have now joined the HTH Teacher Certification Program and I am sharing my days in a classroom with some amazing 10th grade students.
