This content-specific pedagogy course is open to all teachers adding a Social Science authorization to their CA teaching credential. This course provides teachers with instruction and practice for planning and delivering curriculum in the subject-specific content area of History/Social Science. Emphasis in this course is on implementing practical experiences within their subject-specific content area. Topics include, but are not limited to:

• subject-specific instructional lesson planning,
• curriculum frameworks,
• teaching History/Social Science to a wide range of learners,
• backwards design,
• checking for understanding,
• state program standards.

Each week teachers are assigned a Put it to Practice assignment to demonstrate their competency within their classroom.

Prerequisite: Hold a CA Teaching Credential

Textbook: No textbook required

Notes: Passage of the appropriate CSET exam(s) does not need to be completed prior to this course; however, completion of this Methods course in conjunction with passage of the CSET is needed to apply for an added authorization.
