Group work is a powerful tool for creating an equitable space for learning. In the ideal world, students working in groups share different perspectives and strengths to create deeper learning and more powerful products than they could individually. So why is it that group work so frequently falls apart? Maybe you have experienced groups where one student dominates, or where more time is spent on hanging out or conflict management than the task at hand. Our group will dig into the reasons that group work falls apart, and work to understand how our role as task designer and facilitator can influence the success of collaborative work in our room.
