When I first came to High Tech High, I was uncertain and apprehensive of the unknown. The first project I was assigned tested my abilities; I wasn’t aware that I was capable of leading a team. As my school career progressed, so did my confidence and assertiveness. These experiences inspired me to speak up, share ideas, and take risks that move me toward my goal of becoming a strong and effective leader. This role would allow me to continue developing my skills and be a crucial step toward my goals. My passion for this position aligns with my current 11th-grade internship role. I am currently working alongside Diana Cornejo Sanchez, CEO of High Tech High. Assisting her in elevating project-based learning and community, specifically through student voice and opinion across all 16 High Tech High campuses. Through this integration, I believe I can effectively represent, understand, and speak for my entire community. As a board member, I want to ensure fair participation in school decisions for all community members. Everyone should have a voice, not only those already active in the student body. Many unrepresented individuals in our community feel that they are powerless in what goes on at our school. My goal is to create an environment where everyone feels empowered to speak and knows they will be heard through inclusive language, relationships, and implementing policies such as higher student councils, which can foster this continued representation. I also hope to connect with leaders from other student-led organizations, such as GSA (Gender-Sexuality Alliance), BSU (Black Student Union), etc., to guarantee voices are heard from diverse members of our community and elevate High Tech High as a whole.
