Hello! My name is Marek Magaña (he/him). I am from San Juan Capistrano in Orange County where I lived up until I decided to get my Bachelor’s Degree in English at the University of Washington in Seattle. Whilst living in Seattle, I enjoyed going on long walks through lush greenery, spending hours cozied up at a new coffee spot, and playing electric bass in the city’s vibrant music scene. These are all hobbies I did my best to continue since I returned to sunny Southern California to get my Master’s of Arts in Teaching at the University of California, Irvine. Growing up, I remember the most impactful learning experiences were ones that placed me in challenging but supportive situation with no clear solution. As a Humanities teacher at High Tech Middle Chula Vista, I strive to place my students in those same kinds of situations. In my free time, I enjoy reading, hiking and playing video games with my wife Hannah, and riling our cat, Beetle.
