“Applying for college can be a stressful time. But ‘palooza’ just really means it’s an all-day, all-encompassing event,” said Michelle Alderete, one of the school’s college counselors.

A Day of Triumphs: Senior App Fest
One highlight of the College Palooza was undoubtedly the Senior App Fest. Throughout the day, seniors collaborated with college advisors and staff to navigate the intricacies of their college applications. The collaborative spirit reflected the cornerstone of High Tech High’s educational model. As the day reached its crescendo, the celebratory atmosphere took center stage with the theme, “No Pie Til You Apply.” The Senior class gathered to enjoy pizza, dessert pies and participate in a raffle. This event honored High Tech High Seniors in their diligence in pursuing higher education and life goals after graduation.
Exclusive Insights into Admissions Success
Attendees were treated to exclusive insights into High Tech High’s transformative approach to education. The network’s six high schools are redefining the educational landscape with project-based learning and a relentless commitment to a college-going culture. Recognized by the San Diego Union-Tribune for its effectiveness in elevating college attendance rates, High Tech High is not just an educational institution – it’s a vision of the future that intertwines academic rigor with real-world readiness.
Navigating the College Journey
“College Palooza” provided a hands-on experience for students, who were deeply engrossed in crafting their applications for UC/CSU and Common App submissions. Navigating the financial aid process was also a key focus, recognizing the critical juncture students face with looming college application deadlines.
Students also collaborated with fellow students and High Tech High Faculty members to craft and edit college essays and application materials. This in-person format with their peers motivated students to be creative and think outside of the box when presenting themselves to college admission boards.

“Each student has their own dreams, their own goals. Whatever that looks like, we definitely support them. Success is just having a plan. That is the most important thing,” shared a High Tech High Chula Vista faculty member.
