We are excited to announce the launch of High Tech Eats, our brand-new, state-of-the-art kitchen, which opened this fall! In the initial phase, we are preparing all student breakfasts and lunches from scratch and delivering them hot to our campuses. This is part of our commitment to offering fresh, delicious meals that fuel our students’ learning and well-being. High Tech Eats kicked off at the Mesa and Point Loma campuses this fall. The service is scheduled to expand to serve our Chula Vista and North County schools in the spring.
We’ve partnered with Brigaid, a culinary service, to bring this vision to life. With their culinary expertise, flavorful recipes, and a dedicated full-time chef at High Tech High, we’re excited to build an operation that will provide our students with nourishing, scratch-made meals.
What’s Cooking at High Tech Eats?
We’re thrilled to have Chef Nate leading the kitchen team. Every morning, Chef Nate and his crew are hard at work preparing hot meals to deliver directly to campus. These aren’t your typical school meals — at High Tech Eats, we’re focusing on high-quality, nutritious ingredients that taste as good as they look.
As Chef Nate says, “At High Tech Eats, it’s all about using fresh ingredients, balanced recipes, and cooking from scratch. We focus on flavor and nutrition, making sure each dish is something you’ll love and that keeps you energized throughout the day.”
With meals like these, we’re sure our students will be excited to come to the cafeteria every day! And did we mention that breakfast and lunch will continue to be 100% free for all High Tech High students for the entire 2024-25 school year? That’s right — fresh, scratch-made meals at no cost to families.
Here’s what you can expect from the new meal service:
Breakfast
Every day, breakfast is available 30 minutes before school starts. During the morning break, there is a “Second Chance Breakfast” for those who missed it earlier. To kickstart their day, students can enjoy items like muffins, yogurt, cereal, and fresh fruit. And remember, breakfast is always free for all students.
Lunch
Lunch includes an entrée, a serving of fruit, vegetables, and milk. For the fall semester, students at Point Loma and Mesa will be enjoying High Tech Eats’ scratch-made meals, while North County and Chula Vista students will continue to receive delicious lunches from Top Notch Catering until High Tech Eats begins service in the spring. Just like breakfast, lunch is completely free for all students.
Wondering what the students’ favorite meals are? Find out from Kelly Vurburgt, HTH director of Food and Nutrition Services, in this fun reel.
How to Get Your Meal
To keep things organized, all students need to check out with our lunch staff when getting their meals. Even though meals are free, this step helps us keep track of what’s being served. Kindergarten through second-grade students will be given a laminated lunch card with their name and student ID to make checkout easier. For third through twelfth graders, it’s important to know their student ID number to check out.
Additionally, if your child has a food allergy, don’t worry. We have a detailed process for meal accommodations, and you can find more information on our website.
Chef Nate added, “We’re committed to providing meals that are fresh, nutritious, and delicious every single day. Your participation makes all the difference in keeping waste low and our impact high!”
