Following comprehensive and thoughtful deliberations, the High Tech High Board of Trustees announced that Dr. Diana Cornejo-Sanchez was appointed as Interim Chief Executive Officer of High Tech High, effective January 1, 2024.
Dr. Cornejo-Sanchez’s journey with HTH began as a founding teacher at High Tech High Media Arts, and she has most recently served with exceptional dedication as the Director of Instructional Leadership and Development. Her extensive experience and impassioned approach to education make her an exemplary choice for the path ahead.
The announcement comes with a note of gratitude for Dr. Kaleb Rashad, who has steered the organization through particularly challenging times since December 2021. As Dr. Rashad prepares to pass the baton this December, his strategic foresight, commitment, and collaborative approach were noted as a stabilizing influence. In the remaining months of his tenure, Dr. Rashad and Dr. Cornejo-Sanchez will work in tandem to uphold the organization’s vision and goals. Post-transition, Dr. Rashad is set to continue offering his expertise to Dr. Cornejo-Sanchez until July of the subsequent year.
Dr. Cornejo-Sanchez’s path in education is both inspiring and motivating. As a first-generation college graduate and a proud product of an immigrant family, she embodies the resilience and dedication that we champion in our community. Her narrative is a testament to the transformative power of education, imbued with a philosophy that centers on equity, quality, and the foundational values of love and justice for all students.
Reflecting on her upbringing in Barrio Logan and National City, Dr. Cornejo-Sanchez credits her personal growth and success to the educators and family who recognized her potential and provided unwavering support. This personal connection to the educational experience drives her commitment to ensuring that every student receives the same level of encouragement and opportunity.
In her own words shared during the recent Board meeting, Dr. Cornejo-Sanchez stated, “I am the proud daughter of an immigrant family where education was the expectation for us first-generation American citizens. It was meant to be our family’s Saving Grace. My story and experiences are what led me to education and are the reason why Equity is at the Cornerstone of my educational philosophy. All students deserve the right to a high-quality education that is deeply rooted in love and justice.”
Board members noted they are confident that Dr. Cornejo-Sanchez will lead High Tech High with the same passion and commitment she has shown throughout her two decades of service. Please join HTH in welcoming her to this new role in our community.
