SUBJECTS
What happens when we listen well? What happens when we don’t?
How do members of a community create healing after conflict?
How can we be agents of positive change?
Theme: History of Police Brutality & Civil Rights
Products: A student created play
Humanities
Students will write A PLAY. The components of the play will derive from: verbatim scripts from interviews, scenes from important Civil Rights events in history, speeches from Civil Rights activists, scenes depicting current events, and personal stories and social media related to questions about police interactions in communities. There will be a variety of perspectives from history and current events explored and expressed in the performance, looking to find themes and storylines. We NEED VARIETY! We will weave the various scripts together for one performance that answers the essential question(s).
Engineering
Students will also design visual soundscapes and coded images to go with scenes in engineering that complement the performance. Singers, songwriters, dancers and choreographers are encouraged to think of ways to incorporate their disciplines into the final production too. Perhaps borrowing from Greek Tragedy’s chorus structure? The sky’s the limit!
