Students call me Ms. Izumi or Sensei. I was born in Japan and came to the United States for the first time when I was eight. New York was my first “America” where I learned my first English, Horseback Riding, and became a Girl Scout. I went back to Japan after three years and relearned the Japanese language and culture all over again. After graduating from Kobe College with a bachelor’s degree in English and American Literature, I earned my master’s degree in Communications at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and returned to Tokyo, Japan where I became an editor for a publication company while representing the company as a cheerleader for their American Football team. I have been an academic coach at High Tech High North County from 2016 to 2024 and have substituted for teachers in K-12 for all subjects. I became a member of High Tech Middle Media Arts in 2024 as an Education Specialist for the Special Day Class. I love teaching and want my classroom to be a safe and happy place for all humans big and small.
In my free time, I listen to music and play the piano. I also love to cook but I’m better at eating, and I watch all kinds of Anime.
