Hello, my name is Ruth Blackman, and I am thrilled to introduce myself as the new First Grade Teacher at Explorer. I am a native southern Californian and an alumnus of San Diego State. I received my teaching credential from Hebrew Union College at USC. I have almost a decade of experience in the classroom and several years mentoring new and student teachers.

I am passionate about teaching, I believe in a strong partnership between teacher and family to create a positive and nurturing learning environment. I love seeing the aha moments and the real-life learning experiences that happen in the classroom. Magic happens when we guide children towards the tools they need to succeed.

I live in Point Loma with my husband Justin, and our kids. Daisy will be a second grader at Explorer and Simon is heading into Kindergarten. When I’m not teaching, I am either doing yoga, going to the beach, exploring nature with my family, or getting crafty, usually with glitter. I look forward to getting to know all the students and families that make our community so wonderful.
