The High Tech High Board of Trustees appointed Dr. Kaleb Rashad interim chief executive officer for an 18-month period beginning December 16, 2021, through June 2023. Kaleb holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Development, two master’s degrees, and a doctorate in educational leadership focusing on relational trust and organizational change.
Kaleb is the Co-Founder &; Creative Director at the Center for Love &; Justice located within the High Tech High Graduate School of Education (HTH GSE). Kaleb worked with community leaders in the U.S. and abroad to create new schools and redesign existing schools focused on advancing equity through anti-racist project-based learning. Kaleb is also a former director of the Gary and Jerri-Ann Jacobs High Tech High. Says Kaleb, “We learn through projects. We see the deepest forms of understanding coming from this relentless, hopeful, impatient pursuit of learning in the world, with the world, and with one another (paraphrase Paulo Freire): We learn by noticing what matters to students, posing meaningful questions, making sense of our world, and working to transform it.”
Since the start of the New Year, Kaleb has spent time with students, teachers, and directors across all 16 HTH campuses along with Chief Learning Officer Janie Griswold, and HTH Board Chair Gary Jacobs.
“Our primary intention is to be present with our brothers and sisters, seek to understand their lived experiences during this tremendously difficult time, and be more responsive to the needs of our community,” Kaleb noted. “Each campus has its own unique challenges related to the global realities we face. With that said, I’ve been encouraged to see that there is also an equally present spirit of fellowship, community, care, possibility, and hope.”
